The 9th Auto Expo is over but the show is still on for the exhibiting companies who are busy getting their machines back from where they came.

The 9th Auto Expo is over but the show is still on for the exhibiting companies who are busy getting their machines back from where they came. Renault India, one of the 1,200 exhibitor companies that exhibited creations at the expo, spent around Euro 4,500 per car in shipping cars from Europe and getting them back. This, according to people close to the event, would be more for companies like Mercedes-Benz.

Renault displayed three cars at the expo, including the Formula 1, Twingo and Laguna. The company?s Formula 1 car was flown in to New Delhi by service provider DHL. The spokesperson of the company indicated that the other two cars were shipped and handled by RE Roger India, who obtained the necessary customs clearances to get the cars over to the expo location.

RE Roger is an approved cargo agent for India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and authorised to work in Pragati Maidan, the venue for the exhibition.

Asked how much companies would incur on shipment and movement within India , the spokesperson said, ?Shipment makes up for 65% of the total spent, while the remaining 35% is incurred on movement within the country.?

The shipment expenditure depends upon the kind of containers used (boxed or a full-fledged container) for the vehicle.

Says, Vineet Kanaujia, general manager, marketing, Safexpress Private Ltd, a logistics company, ?Car movement just makes up to 5%-6% of the total expenditure of a company at the expo. The remaining is spent on non-automobile activities, including the logistics involved in setting up the stall.?

Indian companies, which preferred building stalls at the expo and then pulling them down thereafter (unlike setting up customised stalls), see 10%-15% of the total stall cost going into logistics. Some foreign companies like Volkswagen, who shipped in their customised stalls to enable re-use and ensure standardisation, also ended up paying more for getting the built stalls to the location.
