A gang of 15 robbed an IT company based in Hinjewadi after beating and tying up security guards and fled with goods worth Rs 51 lakh in the early hours of Monday. Acting swiftly, the policemen on patrol duty tracked down and chased the robbers and within hours arrested three of them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahaji Umap.
According to police, those arrested are Sahil Salim Khan and Raju Yadav of Uttarshiv (Thane) and Safatulla Khan of Mumbai — all aged between 21 and 25.
Police said a group of 15 men entered the Motherson Sumi System Private Limited office and thrashed the security personnel, forcing them to hand over the keys. They loaded the goods in a truck and fled.
“The patrol unit got suspicious after noticing the gate of the company open at such an hour and entered the company only to find the security guards tied up. After they chased the truck and intercepted it, the robbers alighted and, taking advantage of the darkness, hid in the area. The police encircled the area and caught the three after daybreak,” said Umap at a press conference. A hunt is on to arrest the 12 others.
Umap has announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for the team for the success. Assistant Commissioner of Police Smita Patil and officials from the Hinjewadi police station were also present.
