A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation brought Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran under scanner for his alleged role in the spectrum scam, the DMK leader submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday afternoon.
Maran is the third DMK leader to be implicated in the scam, the other two -- A Raja and Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi -- are already in jail.
In the eye of a storm after the CBI's deposition before the apex court yesterday, Maran, however, attended a meeting of the Union Cabinet earlier in the day.
Maran put in his papers before the Prime Minister soon after the Cabinet meet.
The CBI on Wednesday told the apex court that Maran had denied spectrum licences to Aircel in order to "force" owner C Sivasankaran to sell out to the Malayasian firm Maxis, whose owner is allegedly close to the Maran family.
