SummaryAccording to counsel for the oil companies IOC, BPCL and HPCL, they would mention the matter Monday.

A day after the government moved the Supreme Court seeking modification of its order on restricting all authorities from denying a benefit or service to any citizen of India for want of the Aadhaar card, three oil PSUs have also approached the court to get a clarification over the implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (DBTL) scheme for consumers.

According to counsel for the oil companies IOC, BPCL and HPCL, they would mention the matter Monday through a government law officer before the Bench of the Chief Justice of India, which has already listed a similar application by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) for hearing on October 8. The PSUs have clai-med that the the interim restraint order has created doubts over implementation of the DBTL scheme, enabling those enrolled with it to avail subsidised LPG cylinders.

DBTL has already been implemented and has been running successfully in 54 districts and the old system of subsidy has been stopped, the PSUs said, adding that the firms are in process of implementing the scheme in 235 other districts.

Earlier, the apex court agreed to hear on October 8 the plea of MOPNG that has sought clarification or modification of the order for continuing with its DBTL scheme which can be availed only by those persons who have secured Aadhaar cards.

The matter is likely to be listed before a Bench led by Justice B S Chauhan, which had on September 23 said: In the meanwhile, no person should suffer for not getting the Aadhaar card in spite of the fact that some authority had issued a circular making it mandatory and when any person applies to get the Aadhaar card voluntarily, it may be checked whether that person is entitled for it under the law and it should not be given to any illegal immigrant.
