A delight for youth

Touchscreen phones, particularly those with multi-touch capability are priced above 10k. But that seems to be changing with the launch of affordable multi-touch phones such as Spice MI 310 or the more recent Zen M45, a multi-touch phone with all the ingredients of a music phone.

Touchscreen phones, particularly those with multi-touch capability are priced above 10k. But that seems to be changing with the launch of affordable multi-touch phones such as Spice MI 310 or the more recent Zen M45, a multi-touch phone with all the ingredients of a music phone. Apart from the fundamental function of calling, Zen M45 features dual SIM and plenty of apps to keep youngsters engrossed.

Zen M45 is a stylish phone with a bright 2.8-inch touchscreen and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The camera is placed on the rear panel along with a closed unit, which shelters a 1000mAh battery, dual SIM slots, a micro SD card slot and the speaker. Other noticeable features include a torch, a micro USB slot and a 3.5 mm audio jack, all on the top panel. One disappointment with the build was the complete disregard for external music buttons. A music lover would rather prefer one touch sound keys instead of unlocking the screen to adjust the volume.

Touch screen is the prime attraction of M45 and is as good as it claims. The smooth screen is highly responsive and reacts to slightest of taps, even with the screen protector on. Most of the apps and features are basically single touch-based and multi-touch gesture is available only with the image viewer, where you can pinch to zoom in and out. The user interface is marked with big icons for the many apps and options and will keep you thoroughly engaged. Even the smallest of icons are big enough to register your finger. There is no gravity sensor, so you will have to use the phone vertically except in video playback, but that too is done manually.

M45 is an excellent music phone with preloaded old tracks and plays them fluently. Video playback is clear and immersive, but a bit frazzled. M45 boasts of a 3.2 megapixel camera, which is nominal and yields mediocre images, even at maximum image size 2560 x 1920. Video recording at 320 x 240 is below average and stutters a lot. Other key ingredients missing in it include an external camera key or zoom zoom option in camera.

With M45, you can stay up on social networking sites and can stay connected via Opera Mini, WAP, Java, etc. Other highlights are voice recorder, FM, ebook, call recording, games and a unique security centre app and protect data via security code option. M45 is graced with a durable battery, which lasts 2-3 days on regular use. The in-built memory is merely 18 MB, but can be pushed further with a micro SD card. The handset comes with a screen protector and a stylish and robust back cover with a metal stand in it. Overall, it is an affordable music phone with the advantage of multi-touch.
