Since the AAP?s Prof Sadhu Singh?s victory, Faridkot voters have celebrated in ways conventional and unconventional. A barber offered free haircuts Friday, some people distributed sweets in their colonies, and others swept the streets with brooms, saying the victory would signal ?cleaning of the system?. Progressive Book Store in the city offered a discount up to 50 per cent on books sold Saturday. Prof Sadhu Singh defeated SAD heavyweight and sitting MP Paramjeet Kaur Gulshan by over 1.72 lakh votes, wresting a seat that had been with the SAD for the past 15 years. A retired principal and author, Prof Singh was teaching in a private nursing college when he decided to contest his first election to help ?clean up the system?. He joined the AAP some five or six months ago.
