A woman cabin crew member of Air India was allegedly molested by a passenger on board a New York-Delhi flight on Saturday.
According to police, the passenger Ballabh Naini, a 30-year-old businessman, was in an inebriated state. He was arrested after the flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGIA) M I Haider said, ?The accused was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident. He has been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC.?
Police said Naini worked for a US-based real estate firm. During the flight, Naini demanded that his drink be served immediately. The woman cabin crew member tried calming him down saying she would serve it in a while. Police said Naini refused to wait for his drink and accosted the woman and molested her mid-flight.
?He was returning home from New York on Air India flight AI 102 when he began demanding that he be served more alcohol. The woman, however, asked him to wait for some time. This angered him and he followed her to where she was preparing the drink and began abusing her. He then molested her,? said a senior police officer.
Police said the remaining cabin crew overpowered Naini and restrained him to his seat till the flight landed at IGI airport. A message was relayed to the air-traffic and CISF personnel were deputed to arrest Naini once the flight landed.
As soon as the flight landed, Naini was apprehended by the CISF and handed over to Delhi Police. The woman in her complaint said Naini had also opened his own bottle of liquor when she refused him and began consuming it. Police said they will look into how Naini was allowed to carry liquor on board.
