Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the Centre for interfering with the ?due course of judicial proceedings? by making ?false, contrary to records? statements with a malafide intent in the AirAsia matter.
Additionally, Swami informed the court that he has also lodged a plea in the Election Commission of India (ECI) contending that any further approval to the proposed domestic airline will constitute a violation of the model code of conduct.
The leader argued that the matter, for now, is being considered by the ECI, adding that the high court should take up the matter once his plea before the commission is disposed off. The HC re-notified the matter for further hearing on April 23.
The finance ministry on April 3 last year, had approved the $30-million FDI investment by AirAsia. AirAsia owns 49% stake while Tata Sons owns 30% and Telestra Trade owns 21%.
