AirAsia India ties up with ECS Group for cargo operations

Scaling up its footprint further, AirAsia India on Thursday announced it will add two destinations ? Chandigarh and Jaipur ? to its network. The airline, which had started its Indian operations in June this year, already flies to places like Goa, Chennai and Kochi from Bangalore.

Air Asia India chief executive officer Mittu Chandilya said the bookings for Chandigarh and Jaipur will start by Saturday and the services will begin in September.

Chandilya, who was in Chennai to announce the tie-up with Globe Air Cargo of ECS Group for managing its cargo sales, said, ?We will be getting our second aircraft in August, another two aircraft in September and one each in October and November. On an average, we would be adding one aircraft every month.?

He said cargo is critical to the airline?s operations. ?A lot of people in the business don?t give attention to the cargo business. For me, it is key and hope the business contribute around 10% to our business.?

The airline will start daily flights from Bangalore to Jaipur, Bangalore to Chandigarh and vice versa, effective September 5. AirAsia India also announced an increase of its flight frequency from one flight daily to two flights daily from Bengalore to Goa and vice versa. To celebrate the new sectors, AirAsia India is offering all-inclusive fare from as low as R1,999 from Bangalore to Jaipur/Chandigarh and R1,299 from Bangalore to Goa and vice versa.

Chandilya said: ?Given the size of the population in India, there is great potential to expand. We wanted to make sure that we make the right move and get our fares right at the same time. Starting flights to Jaipur and Chandigarh was a strategic decision since we wanted to accelerate our operations in the north, considering the demand for our services.?
