Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not attend office on Monday, down with fever and cold. But that did not deter a stream of visitors from turning up at his residence in Kaushambi ? from unpaid employees of Kingfisher Airlines to home guards and Jats from Delhi and Haryana.
The laid-off employees of Kingfisher Airlines Ltd had not been paid their salaries for 17 months. Delhi Police home guards were not happy with their service conditions. The Jats were seeking reservations.
A delegation of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) working in MCD hospitals and dispensaries, personnel working for CATS ambulances and NDMC employees, who hold contract jobs, also reached Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to demand regularisation.
Around 200 activists of All India OBC Reservation Raksha Samiti also staged a protest outside his house, demanding that the Jat community should not get OBC status. They insisted on meeting Arvind Kejriwal.
But Arvind Kejriwal was so unwell that he could not meet any of the people who turned up at his residence. He tweeted the news of his ill health and inability to attend office. ?It was so important to attend office today. We had planned the water announcement. God, bahut galat time par bimaar kiya,? Arvind Kejriwal tweeted. ?Running 102 fever… Sad that I won?t be able to attend office today.?
Arvind Kejriwal called Delhi Jal Board officials to his residence around 4 pm and announced the decision to supply 20 kilolitres of water free per month to households with registered water meters.
Sources said Kejriwal was feeling weak and barely managed to get up throughout the day. He was restricted to his bed throughout Sunday also and came out only in the evening to address a waiting crowd, mostly DTC employees.
?He was feeling so weak on Monday that doctors had to put him on drip and advised him bed rest,? Aswathi Murlitharan, AAP?s media coordinator, said.
Addressing mediapersons outside his residence, Dr Bipin Mittal, who is treating Arvind Kejriwal, said, ?The Chief Minister has been administered antibiotics to contain diarrhoea and advised complete bed rest. He will rest for the day… as the day progresses, we will see. He was very keen on going to the Secretariat… I advised him against going out,? he said.
