As Delhi University opens admission for a second batch of students to its four-year undergraduate programme, those moving to the second year of the course are likely to go through a rigorous screening process as they pick from 14 minor disciplines (DC-II) on offer. To avoid overcrowding in courses such as Economics and Political Science, DU has issued guidelines.
?In case the number of students opting a particular subject as DC-II exceeds the number determined by the college, then allotment should be done in order of merit on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by students in all the foundation and applied language courses of the first semester,? the guidelines stated.
?While determining the merit for allotment of DC-II subjects, reservation policy applicable in the University of Delhi for admission to DC-I should be followed,? the guidelines further stated.
Several colleges said they were likely to have a cut-off list for courses which receive a large number of applications.
?We will allot students their first preference of
DC-II if there is no overcrowding in the subject. If a lot of students opt for a subject as their DC-II, we will have to make a cut-off list,? Ramjas College principal Rajendra Prasad said.
Lady Shri Ram College spokesperson, Kanika Khandelwal, said, ?For courses such as Political Science and Psychology, a cut-off list will be prepared, based on which students will be allotted their DC-II course. If seats reserved for the SC/ST category are not filled, these will be converted to general category.?
Pradyumn Kumar, principal Hindu College, said, ?We will offer students their first preference as DC-II. If the number of students is more than the number of seats, then we will create new sections to accommodate them.?
