Dr Easwaramoorthy Rangaswamy, Director, International Office of Amity Global Business School, Singapore, talks about the programmes offered by the institute and the future plans. Excerpts:
Amity is a well-recognized in India. How do you plan to replicate the success worldwide?
Back in India, Amity is one of the leading names in imparting education, especially business education. The University has developed a strong infrastructure and has also achieved 100% placement. Now the educational group is planning to replicate the same success worldwide. Last year the group started its global expansion programme and established its campus in Singapore, London, San Francisco and New York. Soon the University will be coming up with state-of-the-art campus comprising of quality faculty in Mauritius and Dubai.
Can you throw some light on the history of Amity Singapore?
Amity Global Business School, Singapore is a very young institute. We opened our operations in March 2010. Amity is one of the few schools in the country which re-registered itself under the Private Education Act, which came into effect in December 2009. The Act is a part of the Government of Singapore's drive to overhaul the educational system in Singapore so as to make it more attractive for foreign students.
On December 1, 2009 there were over 1000 private schools in Singapore and on May 22, 2010 only 65 schools are allowed, which includes Amity Global Business School, Singapore. The rest are trying to re-register themselves or are looking at tie-ups or mergers.
There are many well established institutes so why did you not take over them?
Our main focus has been to build brand Amity. That is why we would like to go greenfield. We also take the location into consideration. For any business school location plays a pivotal role in its success that is why all major business schools are located at the center of a business district. The advantage of Amity is that it is located at Raffles Place in the very center of a business district giving it a unique advantage.
Every institute has a vision. Please tell us what is Amity's vision and where is it planning to reach in the coming years?
Amity Global Business School, Singapore was registered in March 2010 and on March 20 the first batch of students started taking their classes. The second batch will start from September 2010. Amity in India provides several courses but here in Singapore our core focus area
