AOC i2272PWHUT MONITOR: Big & bright

At a time when our mobile phones, laptops and tablets are touch-enabled, many among us wonder?especially those who are constantly glued to their desktops, at home or in the workplace?if our computer monitors too had touch features. Well, if some of the monitor makers have their way, the humble desktop?its monitor screen to be precise?will no longer be a dumb terminal. They are incorporating the latest features?including touch functionality?into their offerings.

Recently, the Taiwanese display technology firm AOC introduced two Windows 8 certified 10 point touch full high definition monitors?i2272PWHUT (21.5 inch) and i2472PWHUT (23.6 inch). Lets face it?everyone needs a good monitor to get the most out of a PC. The more adventurous even want to play their game or a movie on the big screen, from their laptop or even a mobile phone, right?

AOC is widely known for its range of LCD monitors, LCD TVs and all-in-one PCs. Their AOC 72 series models are equipped with high-grade IPS panels and also offer super-wide viewing angles with a convenient tilt function for a good touch control experience. They are furnished with built-in speakers, a microphone and a 720p webcam for convenient video conferencing. Price wise, the i2272PWHUT and i2472PWHUT are available in the Indian market at R24,990 and R28,990. We got the 21.5 inch monitor for a review, let us see its performance.

Out of the box, the i2272PWHUT monitor will grab your attention with its stylish looks and ergonomic design. At 21.5 inch, this is a fairly decent-sized monitor and I feel that it is equally suitable for home and office use. At R24,990, it has a hard-to-beat price tag too. The monitor features an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, a superior type of screen that offers consistent image appearance and colours across the entire display. Viewing angles are beautiful and the benefit of IPS panel is such that the colours remain the same even when you change your viewing angle.

The monitor?s screen offers pretty wide viewing angles of 178 degrees. There are ample connectivity options available on this monitor. I connected this 21.5 inch machine with a Dell laptop to check out its screen resolution and other features. In my experience, this AOC machine rendered live and bright pictures with a fantastic contrast.

Technically speaking, this WLED-backlit monitor delivers a full high definition resolution with a luminosity of 250 cd/m? and a pixel response time of only 5 ms which makes it a good choice for the gamers. Next to a D-Sub input, signal sources can also be connected via two HDMI ports.

All in all, the colours are nice and bright on this monitor, and its design is slim and beautiful. The design and its budget price give it an edge over other monitors available from many other manufacturers. AOC has done a good job at this.

n Estimated street price: Rs 24,990
