The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal lead his party’s road show in Ahmedabad city on Saturday afternoon that cross-crossed through residential and commercial areas of the city several of which are BJP bastions.
Kejriwal who began his road show at 1400 hours from the party’s local office located at Shreyas crossroads, travelled in an open jeep with AAP supporters and policemen alongside.
Though his road show officially had about seven vehicles, several of party supporters, on two-wheelers accompanied Kejriwal who constantly waved to the curious onlookers who had lined up the road-side.
“We have come all the way from Rajkot. I am among the 800 party members who have come for the AAP’s public meeting to be held at Bapunagar later in the evening,” said Chandra Arora, one of the few female party workers who were part of the road show.
“We are enthused to see our leader Kejriwal come to Gujarat. He is honest to the core,” said Arora, a PhD scholar who joined the party a couple of months ago.
As Kejriwal passed through Paldi, Kalupur and Gitamandir areas, several people came forward to garland him, while others including autorickshaw drivers, simply waved back. “This man has created ripples in all the places that he goes to,” said Ashok Patel, who was one of the autorickshaw driver who waved to Kejriwal as he passed by.
AAP supporters armed with brooms (party’s election symbol) meanwhile raised slogans — Shelia Dixit haari hai, Ab Modi ki baari hai — as the rally passed through some of the Hindu and Muslim localities of the city.
The road show is scheduled to culminate at Bapunagar where Kejriwal will address a public rally later in the evening.
