Budget 2018: Stressing on the need to improve the quality of education imparted to the students, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the Union Budget 2018, has said an integrated B.Ed. the programme will be initiated. Jaitley raised concerns over the education quality. The finance minister said, “We have managed to get children to School but the quality of education is still a cause of serious concern,” An integrated BEd programme is a combination of degree in arts, science, and education course. This program requires collaboration between the Faculty/School of Science, arts and that of Education, to ensure that the teacher not only can work in an educational institution but also in an industrial area related to science and arts.
The course if properly implemented can boost the educational sectors and will also help in job creation in the economy. Students aspiring to become science and mathematics teachers will be trained to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology under this course. Jaitley added that the training of teachers during service is extremely critical. Notably, the Right to Education has also been amended so that 13 lakh untrained teachers are trained. “We have amended the Right to Education Act to enable more than 13 lakh untrained teachers to get trained,” the finance minister has said.

The integrated BEd course provides in-depth knowledge of different subjects of humanities, sciences as well as about the courses of teacher education and prepare qualitative future teachers. Several universities across have already started his course according to NCTE guidelines.

Integrated BEd course duration: The duration of the entire program is 4 years. Usually, if one enrolls after the completion of their graduation it takes two years to complete BEd course. But under the integrated programme, the students will be awarded the degree at 1 year less than the usual duration.
Eligibility to opt for integrated B.Ed course:
Students must have passed class12 in Science, arts or commerce stream from a recognized board. Minimum aggregate mark required is generally around 50% (scored in 12th board examination).
How to get a teaching job after integrated B.Ed course?
Candidates who have completed the course will be eligible to take up teaching profession at secondary or higher secondary levels. Candidates who are looking for a central government teaching jobs will have to appear for CTET test. under the state government, job aspirants can appear for state wise teacher eligibility test conducted by the respective state public service commission.
