The 45-day budget session of the Bihar legislature started on a stormy note on Monday

The 45-day budget session of the Bihar legislature started on a stormy note on Monday as an MLA from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) reportedly smashed a bottle outside the Assembly demanding prohibition of alcohol in the state.

The legislators from Lalu Prasad’s party shouted slogans outside the Assembly to protest against the increasing crime against women and pressed their demand for a complete ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks in the state capital.

RJD MLA from Jagdishpur, Bhai Dinesh Kumar Singh said that the issue of liquor ban should be taken up in the budget session.

“We want to say that you should inform the people of Bihar that how much loss and profit you earn from the ban and sale of liquor. The issue of liquor sale should be raised in the budget session. The sale of liquor should be prohibited,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Ashwini Chaubey said that the government is taking adequate steps in this regard.

“Many unfortunate incidents take place due to consumption of liquor. Therefore, the government is taking steps with an aim to put a ban on the sale of liquor,” said Chaubey.

The 45-day budget session, which will end on April 3, will have 29 sittings.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushi Kumar Modi will table the Economic Survey Report on February 19.

The budget session might also witness a stern opposition against the government led by Nitish Kumar towards their apathy in several issues and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
