Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Bharatiya Janata Party’s Arun Jaitley on Wednesday called the AAP ?urban maoists even as the Delhi unit of the party passed a resolution saying the state was being ruled by a ?bunch of political mercenaries?.
The Bharatiya Janata Party resolution stated: ?Delhi is currently being ruled by a bunch of political mercenaries hired, supported and controlled by Congress party. The words and action of AAP leaders expose the fact that it is a Maoist outfit.?
Jaitley was speaking at the Constitution Club where state unit leaders met to take stock of the political situation ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The state executive meet of the Bharatiya Janata Party ended up discussing the party?s biggest crisis: lack of leadership. The Bharatiya Janata Party is grappling with the issue of the appointment of a new Delhi unit chief. The issue holds importance, especially for Delhi as AAP?s only government and presence is in the city.
As senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party met on Wednesday to take stock of the political atmosphere in the national capital after the AAP came to power, absence of a strong leadership and a possible change of guard dominated the conversations of the leaders, who attended the meet at the Constitution Club.
The Bharatiya Janata Party does not want the AAP to consolidate its position in Delhi, from where the party hopes to do well in the Lok Sabha elections. but lack of coordination and unity in the party has been troubling the leadership. Some of the members, who attended the meet, are ticket hopefuls for the Lok Sabha elections.
Reports of a possible change of guard in the Delhi unit and the absence of two important leaders at the meeting raised questions on how well was the party prepared for the upcoming polls. Harsh Vardhan, who was out of town, and V K Malhotra, who said he was unwell, did not attend the meeting.
A senior leader in the party also quoted veteran leader L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh at the meeting to drive home the leadership crisis. ?Advani and Singh both had publicly accepted that delay in announcement of a chief ministerial candidate cost the party in the Assembly elections. And now a possible change of guard in the state unit ahead of the Lok Sabha elections can be unsettling,? one leader said.
Over lunch, most leaders seemed more interested in their own party?s dilemma over the leadership and the central leadership?s “indecisiveness” in appointing a new president for the Delhi unit than on meeting the AAP challenge. ?If we put our house in order, we will most certainly defeat the AAP,? the leader said.
