Bharti Walmart, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart, on Friday launched the Bharti Walmart Training Centre (BWTC) in Hyderabad through a public private partnership (PPP) with the government of Andhra Pradesh. The centre will provide free-of-cost training to underprivileged youth and equip them with requisite skills sets, to bridge existing gap, for cash-and-carry and organised retail formats, the company said.
The training curriculum is based on Walmart?s global best practices and will be implemented through Centum Learning, who will run the centre. This will help students take advantage of Walmart?s global knowledge and expertise in retail business. Successful candidates will be certified by Bharti Walmart, which will help certified students find employment. The centre offers short-term vocational certification courses that equip them to become floor and sales assistants or supervisors. Over 15,000 students have been certified and over 5,400 have been placed in several companies.
Speaking at the launch, Arti Singh, senior vice-president ? Corporate Affairs, Bharti Walmart, said, ?The retail sector in India is growing at an exponential rate and therefore provides tremendous growth opportunities. The Centre?s decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail will provide further impetus to the retail sector. However, the industry lacks the talent pool with required skill sets to leverage this huge potential. Through the BWTC, we aim to bridge this gap by imparting retail training to the youth of Andhra Pradesh and help them create sustainable careers in the retail sector.?
