Exclusive Bench to hear cases of crimes against women
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has constituted a separate appellate bench (Division Bench) to hear cases of crimes against women. Justices Nadira Patheriya and Mrinal Kanti Chaudhury will constitute the bench. The single bench of Justice Toufiq Uddin will now hear cases on crimes against women, apart from other crimes.
Fast-track courts order jail for two for raping minors
Raiganj: A fast-track court in Raiganj in North Dinajpur district on Tuesday sentenced a 33-year-old to life imprisonment for raping an 18-month-old. The crime was committed last February. Another fast-track court in the district, meanwhile, sent a 25-year-old to seven years in jail for raping a 16-year-old girl in 2009.
New STF to stop harassment of women on Metro
Kolkata:Taking a cue from the recent incidents of sexual harassment of women on Metro, a Special Task Force has been put up by the RPF for the Metro Rail to nab offenders within the Metro premises. The squad will be headed by a woman assistant sub-inspector. Two helpline numbers — 9007041789 and 9007041908 — have been also started.
