BJP, SP hand in glove: Mayawati

On a day a five-member UP government committee probing the recent communal riots in Saharanpur blamed administrative lapses for the incident and questioned BJP?s role, BSP chief Mayawati hit out at both the ruling Samajwadi Party government in the state and the BJP, accusing them of ?connivance? in allowing communal tensions to spread in the state.

She referred to the report of the five-member committee, headed by UP minister Shivpal Yadav, as ?khanapoorti? and alleged that the real facts had not come out in the report.

Accusing the SP and the BJP of ?milibhagat?, the BSP chief said: ?The situation in UP was already poor under the Samajwadi Party?s rule. But it has deteriorated further ever since the BJP-led NDA came to power in the Centre.? She also pointed out that there was ?peace? in Uttar Pradesh under her rule.

Stating that communal forces were gaining strength in the country and several states were witnessing tensions, Mayawati said Uttar Pradesh had emerged at the top spot among states from where such incidents were being reported.

The BSP chief also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s Independence Day speech wherein he had called himself the ?Pradhan Sewak? of the country. ?It did not sound like the speech from a Pradhan Sewak. Instead, it sounded like a speech aimed at the forthcoming Assembly elections in four states,? she said.

Acknowledging that the new government was in its ?early days?, Mayawati added that though Modi had made a lot of promises during the election campaign, he was yet to begin delivering on them.

The BSP chief also announced that her party would not enter into any political alliance for Assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, likely to be held by the end of the year. She also said that BSP would not contest the September 13 by-election in the 11 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.

The BSP supremo further said that as a matter of policy, her party was not inclined to deploy all its energies and resources for four-five months to contest seats in a by-election and would instead focus on widening its base across the country.

Inducting former Congress MP from Haryana Dr Arvind Sharma into the BSP, Mayawati said that if her party got a chance to form a government in the state, Sharma would be Chief Minister.
