This week, the third generation of the BMW X5 was launched in India. BMW claims the X5 is the world’s most successful Sports Activity Vehicle. To be locally produced in the company’s Chennai plant, the BMW X5 xDrive 30d is priced at Rs 70.9 lakh. The Sports Activity Vehicle segment was created by BMW and it essentially means a vehicle with off-road capabilities that can also be driven like a sports car. While the X5 doesn’t have any direct competitors in India, we take a look at three cars that are slotted in its price segment: Land Rover Discovery, Porsche Cayenne and the slightly lesser priced Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
