BMW Z4 Roadster hits India with extra power, price at top end, but is petrol positive

BMW Z4 Roadster manages to surprise with its economy on petrol consumption.

To make the competition more intense between the top German auto majors, BMW brings a revamped version of one of its highly rated sports car, BMW Z4 Roadster – BMW has added to the sports car’s dynamism. The price, as expected from a top end sports model is high, but for all those who keep an eye on petrol consumption, the machine is not really a fuel guzzler. BMW Z4 Roadster model in India is priced at Rs 68.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

In India, the BMW Z4 Roadster has arrived in two avatars – the BMW Z4 sDrive35i DPT, which is the top variant, while the base model is the sDrive35i.

The revamp process has resulted in quite a few updates on both the exterior and interior of the vehicle. This makes the vehicle look totally new in terms of its appearance, enhances the overall appeal and also redefines its beauty. The new BMW Z4 gets an all-together newly designed front fascia that includes revised headlamps, front bumper design and front grille. The detailing is captivating having added to the the exteriors prominent and elegant lines.

BMW Z4 fender gets some additional metal over it and the wing mirror gets some styling updates too. The short overhangs and an extended bonnet design along with the low height rear seats are all combined in a way to grant an amazing feel while driving at high speeds.

To add more to the beauty of the vehicle, the striking contours and soft bends, BMW’s very popular kidney shaped grille serves as an additional element in redefining the style statement of the Z4.

Being a luxury sports car, Z4 certainly packs a lot of power. BMW’s expertise clearly comes out with immense amount of driving pleasure delivered by the Z4 Roadster. When it comes to engine specification, which is considered one of the highlights for any sports car, the Z4 is powered with BMW TwinPower turbo six-cylinder petrol engine.

The engine is made to generate maximum power output of 306bhp at 5800rpm and peak torque of 400Nm. Such high torque delivery allows the Roadster to move ahead with full power and thereby offer unbeatable drive. The engine comes mated with seven-speed sport automatic double-clutch transmission, which enables the vehicle to take just 5.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100km. Unexpectedly, and quite happily, the facelifted Z4 Roadster delivers fuel economy of 10. 37kmpl and this definitely will work in favor of the company in the Indian market.

Out of the two variants, the Z4 sDrive35i (top variant) comes with Design Pure Traction (DPT) which is one distinctive way of presenting the vehicle’s perfect and athletic character more prominently.

BMW Z4 package includes Valencia Orange exterior paint, BMW individual headiner antracite, interior trim finishers metal weave and Alcantara/Leather interior upholstery. There’s also an exclusive BMW accessories baggage decided with the new Z4 RoadSter. This offer includes several accessories like, Star-spoke 276 light-alloy wheels, front grille in black, carbon front splitter, flexible rear carrier facility, cup-holder at the center console, aluminum pedal covers and all-weather floor mats.

The interiors are also luxurious and BMW Z4 has premium features like, multifunctional steering wheel, sport leather steering wheel with gearshift paddle, lumbar support for front passenger and driver seat, electrically adjustable seats, start/stop button, automatic air conditioning with 2-zone control, floor mats in velour and sports seats again for driver and front passenger. Apart from these, BMW offers the BMW Apps, BMW Live, Bluetooth connectivity, HiFi System Professional, Park Distance Control (front and rear) and voice control, all as part of BMW Connected Drive facility that makes it more convenient for the driver.

When it comes to safety features, the Z4 Roadster has got front and side airbags for driver and front passenger, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC) that immediately applies brakes in case of exceeding cornering limits. If things still manage to go wrong, there’s also a roll-over protection system, side-impact protection, three-point seat belts, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and electronic vehicle immobilizer.
