Box office collections: ‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’ races ahead, Bollywood releases hit

‘Revolver Rani’ and ‘2 States’ box office collections affected by the low audience turn out.

The month of May seems to have got a slow start. With the temperatures rising, the audiences seem to be staying away from theatres. In fact this week’s releases Purani Jeans (PJ) and Kya Dilli Kya Lahore (KDKL) have opened on a rather slow note. On the other hand, the much talked about and anticipated Hollywood sequel, ‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’ that released on Thursday (May 1) as expected has opened on a good note.

The reasons being given for this non-starter week are apparently the extended weekend that has witnessed many families/ working individuals opting for a break in the form of a summer vacation/ weekend getaway, rather than watching a film. Apart from this, the audiences, who in the previous weeks have been treated to content heavy films, are skeptical about the latest releases. Though there has been much talk about both PJ and KDKL, with a decent amount of media buzz, both ventures have failed to capture the audience’s attention. The lack of an ‘A’- lister star cast along with non-commercial storylines have made both the films to suffer badly at the BO. The earlier releases, ‘Revolver Rani’ and ‘2 States’, continue to run in theatres, but again are affected by the low audience turn out.

Overall, this week might just be classified as one of the worst weeks for new releases, with all three films relying heavily on good word of mouth to last the weekend.
