BSE Sensex ends flat ahead of inflation, IIP data

The BSE benchmark, the Sensex ended 29.80 points or 0.14% higher at 21,856.22 points.

Benchmark indices ended flat on Wednesday ahead of the industrial output (IIP) and consumer price index (CPI) inflation data. The BSE benchmark, the Sensex ended 29.80 points or 0.14% higher at 21,856.22 points, while the NSE?s Nifty ended 5 points or 0.08% higher at 6,516.90 points.

Experts feel markets are likely to post further gains. “Positive momentum is likely to continue and Nifty may touch 6800. After the rally, it may consolidate within a range of 6400 ? 6600 in the near term,” Standard Chartered Securities said in a note.

Among sectoral indices, the BSE Healthcare (1.23%), BSE FMCG (1.22%) and BSE IT (0.56%) were the major gainers. Among individual stocks, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.08%), Hero Moto Corp (2.24%) and ITC (2.08%) were the major gainers on the 30-share Sensex.

Meanwhile, most Asian indices ended in the red. The Nikkei (-2.59%), Hang Seng (-1.65%), Kospi (-1.60%), Straits Times (-1.02%) and Shanghai Composite (-0.17%) were trading lower. European indices were also under pressure. FTSE (-0.99%), DAX (-1.46%) and CAC (-1.51%) were trading in the red at 5.00 pm IST.
