Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Chandigarh Chapter today hailed the decision of Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan on deferring the last date of obtaining Registration under the Food Safety and Standards Act till February 4, 2015.
Welcoming the decision, CAIT National Secretary and Chandigarh based entrepreneur, Harish Garg complimented the ministry for taking cognizance of the sufferings and plight of the trading.
Under the Act, any food business operator with a profit motive or not, whether public or private engaged in the activities of any type of food including manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, import, distribution of food articles or any type of food service will be treated as food business operator and is bound to obtain registration and license from the concerned department.
Commenting on the statement issued by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standard Act of India) to defer the bill, Garg stated, ?It certainly is a big relief for the traders as the act includes various anomolities and disparities. CAIT has been opposing the Rules and Regulations of the said Act since its rules have been framed to facilitate MNCs to control and dominate the food business in India with the packaged food. There are many provisions which are impossible to cater for the domestic food business operators in the country?.
