The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, along with BITSAA, its alumni association, announced the commencement of the BITSAA Global Meet (BGM) 2014 in its Golden Jubilee year. Themed on celebrating innovation, achievement and leadership, BGM 2014 saw a congregation of BITSians from across the globe to bring alive a reunion of all BITS Pilani student batches spread across four campuses, five decades and seven continents. BGM 2014 was inaugurated by BN Jain, vice-chancellor, BITS Pilani; VS Rao, director, BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus; Ashok Agarwal, chairman, BGM; Raju Reddy, chairman, BITSAA International; and Sanjay Kendry, CEO, BGM, along with 1,500-plus BITSians and faculty members. The event also saw the unveiling of ?BITS of Success?, a book highlighting the journey of BITSians.
CCS?s Education 2025: Student First held in Delhi
School Choice Campaign, the flagship programme of the Centre for Civil Society, has organised the 5th Annual School Choice National Conference on the theme ?Education 2025: Student First? in Delhi. Over 100 educationists and policy experts took part in the conference, deliberating on the education system in India and the innovation and planning needed to reach Vision 2025?where students are at the centre of the education system. School Choice Campaign aims to move India?s education system towards a school choice model that brings affordable and quality education of choice to all children.
V Anand awards super achievers at NIIT

HCL crowns MAD LTD season 4 winners
MAD LTD (Make a Difference, Lead the Difference), a youth leadership initiative by HCL Technologies, announced the winners of the Grand Finale season 4. The initiative is known for nurturing and building future leaders who are passionate about specific causes and want to create a community of like-minded people. Suhel Yadav from IIFT Delhi emerged as the winner in business category?Fittie Fit. Partha Biswas from IIM Calcutta was crowned the winner for online education. Shakti Saini from IIM Kozhikode emerged as the winner of the technology category for green electricity.
Great Lakes organises a research conference
The Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, recently held the 8th Yale-Great Lakes International Research Conference at its campus. The event was graced by Serge Evraert, dean, IAE Bordeaux, and Jyoti Bachani, St Mary?s College of California. This conference aims to promote, facilitate and advance India-centric management related research. The centre acts as a bridge that links scholars around the globe with India as a common interest. Sheffield Hallam offers scholarships to 6 Indians
Sheffield Hallam University, one of the UK?s largest universities, is offering six scholarships for PG study in Sports Business Management out of the 370 scholarships worth ?1 million for Indian students. These six students will be awarded ?3,750 each to study MSc Sports Business Management at the Sheffield Hallam starting September 2014 as part of the Great Scholarship campaign of British Council.
Stalwarts of SIOM rule Nashik markets for a day
Making money is an art and the SIOMites reiterated this philosophy by demonstrating their business acumen in a recent day-long money spinning endeavour. The countdown to Drishti 2014?Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM) Nashik?s flagship event?began with a money-spinning event wherein money-churning skills of future tech-managers were put to a test. The participating teams were provided R500 and they had to use their business skills to turn this amount into something of substantial value. A total of 6 teams comprising 4-6 members scouted Nashik for avenues of revenue generation within the stipulated time frame of 8 hours. The winning team, The Sun, generated R5,560 from R500.
Tata and NEN to recognise best student start-ups
The TATA First Dot, powered by the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN)?the national recognition and mentoring platform for student start-ups?is inviting people to vote online to determine five people?s choice winners in the competition for best student start-ups. The detailed profiles of the 415 shortlisted student ventures have been showcased on the Tata First Dot website. This year, a mobile application platform has been introduced for the ease of access and voting. The last day for voting is January 15, 2014.
