KPMG in India last week launched its nationwide initiative aimed at environmental sustainability at the Lady Sri Ram College in New Delhi. Environmental sustainability is the need of the hour and is one of KPMG?s key focus areas for their citizenship initiatives. To celebrate 20 years of KPMG in India and keeping with their endeavour of working towards a sustainable future, a number of environment projects (solar and rainwater harvesting projects) will be inaugurated across ten locations in India at various schools, colleges and NGOs. KPMG hopes to raise environmental awareness and a feeling of collective responsibility amongst the student community. The inauguration of the environment project was done by Richard Rekhy, CEO, KPMG in India. KPMG has provided Lady Sri Ram College with a solar power plant of 75 wp. Also, Miranda House and Shri Ram College of Commerce have been provided solar street lights of 75 wp each by KPMG. Rekhy said: ?We have citizenship embedded in our values and we actively encourage our people to give back to our communities by investing time in educating school/college students by implementing solutions to environmental issues. Our initiatives have made a sustainable difference in our communities and are focused on building capacity for individuals and institutions. Our support to communities, colleges and schools has helped drive inclusive growth and enabled institutions and individuals to work towards achieving their full potential.?

The New Delhi edition of the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) IT Wiz 2013 will be held on November 16 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi. The event is open to all school students studying in class 8-12, including pre-university of junior college students. Though there is no entry fee, each institution is allowed to send multiple teams of two members each. Earlier this year, similar rounds were held across 14 locations, which includes Mumbai, Nagpur, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, etc. The winners of the tech wizard from each of these 14 locations will contest for the smart tech wizards 2013 title to be held in the month of December in Mumbai.

IET honours engineers at Lord Austin Lecture 2013

The IET Delhi local network of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), one of the world?s largest multi-discipline, professional societies for engineers, presented the Outstanding Engineers Award to BP Rao, chairman & managing director, BHEL, and RK Upadhyay, chairman & managing director, BSNL, in recognition of their contributions to the field of engineering. The awards were presented at the IET Lord Austin Lecture 2013. Kul Bhushan, member electrical, Railway Board, and also the ex-officio secretary to the government of India, was the chief guest.

Whistling Woods International (WWI) has been felicitated at the Dewang Mehta Business School Awards in association with 21st Business School Affaire. EU invites Amity students under Erasmus Mundus

Amity Institute of Social Sciences (AISS) and Erasmus Mundus Association and its India Chapter (EMA Indian Chapter) recently organised a workshop on ?Higher Education in Europe: Prospects and Perspectives? at the Amity campus, Sector-125, Noida, to disseminate awareness about the Erasmus Mundus Programme amongst Amity students and faculty members. Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programme was started in 2004 by the European Union to attract the best of global talent to premier higher education institutes in Europe. Welcoming the gathering, Nirupama Prakash, director, AISS, said the workshop brought together experts in higher education. Pavel Svitil, minister-counsellor, deputy head of delegation, Delegation of the European Union to India, expressed his delight on visiting Amity. Ashok K Chauhan, founder president, Amity Group, said that Amity is beginning yet another era of internationalisation of education through Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programme.

MagicBricks and IIMB?s Housing Sentiment Index

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and the property portal MagicBricks.com have released the ?IIMB-MB Housing Sentiment Index? (HSI) for the real estate sector in India. According to the report, in line with the current economic scenario, buyers are bullish enough to slow down real estate purchases but are actively scouting for property. However, they are not in a hurry to make their purchase and expect the prices to drop by up to 10%.
