Campus roundup: Series of IIMA alumni reunion at the campus

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is holding five alumni reunions at the IIMA campus

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is holding five alumni reunions at the IIMA campus during December 2013 and January 2014. The scheduled events include the 10-year reunion of the class of 2003 batch; the 20-year reunion of the class of 1993; the silver jubilee reunion of the class of 1989; the 30-year reunion of the class of 1983 and the 40-year reunion of the class of 1973. About 300 alumni are expected to be present along with their families during the five reunions. Prof Arvind Sahay, dean, Alumni & External Relations, said, ?Alumni are the key pillar of the reputation of our institute. Alumni reunions are occasions for our alumni and IIMA to explore ways and means of increasing the scale and scope of the engagement between each other. The reunions would provide an opportunity to obtain feedback from the alumni about the ongoing curriculum review of its PGP and also enable sharing details of activities at the institute. Some interesting details like, in a first, a serving full-time professor at any IIM or IIT, Abraham Koshy, Professor of Marketing, was appointed as the non-executive chairman of Federal Bank. Another was that 101 PGP students went on exchange around the world.? Prof Sahay now hopes that, going forward, more alumni would come back to the institute.

Six Capital launches training on FX trading

XLRI to host industrial relations conference

XLRI-Xavier School of Management will host the ?6th National Industrial Relations Conference? on January 11-12, 2014, at XLRI Campus, Jamshedpur. Researchers to develop green app for gamers

Researchers investigating the potential impact of educational computer games in contributing to sustainable behavioural change are looking to create a prototype app. The Scottish Crucible funded project has been led by Robert Gordon University researcher Dr Joanneke Kruijsen in collaboration with experts at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland?s Rural College, Glasgow School of Art, the University of Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt University. The cross-sector team set out to explore whether the idea of creating a fun game utilising real data from players in a competitive social environment could contribute to people changing their behaviour.

DPG Polytechnic signs MoU with Toyota Kirloskar

With the motive of filling the gap between industry and education, DPG Polytechnic, Gurgaon, signed an MoU with Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Under this agreement, DPG faculty will be trained by Toyota. The company will also provide machinery set-up to students along with regular guidance. Although it was not announced, there are also possibilities for student placements.

CEPT?s Team Transpose wins the NSC 2013

The National Student Challenge (NSC), India?s foremost challenge around the transformation of urban settlements, announced the three winning solutions in the finals held at Bangalore campus of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements on December 12, 2013. The wining team was team Transpose from CEPT University followed by joint runner-ups InfiLight and amrutDhara from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras, respectively.

Amity confers degrees, diplomas at convocation

Amity University organised its 9th convocation where over 9,000 graduands received their UG and PG degrees. Nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar was felicitated with honorary doctorate degree in science. Ashok K Chauhan, founder-president, Amity Group, shared with the students the mantra of success, while Anil Kakodkar said that education is one of the most important tools for the empowerment of people.
