Prof Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor, Delhi University, has been honoured by the University College Cork (UCC) for his transformative role in modernising higher education. He was awarded a DSc (Degree of Doctor of Science). Prof Singh also delivered a lecture entitled ?India in the 21st century?, as part of UCC?s Centre for Global Development ?Global Challenges? lecture series. Prof Singh said, ?I am deeply honoured that I have received this honorary degree because I am conscious of the fact that one of the greatest mathematical minds in history, George Boole, was a professor at UCC. I feel his presence while I am here in Cork, and have always been an ardent admirer of George Boole since my school days, never realising that one day his own university would signal this honour for me.?

Education in Ireland holds virtual Q&A on Twitter

Education in Ireland held a virtual Q&A on Twitter last week. The organisation claimed it was a huge success as parents and students in large numbers interacted on Twitter and explored the opportunities of pursuing higher education in Ireland. Students interacted extensively with representatives from 15 Irish institutes. On the occasion, James Mackrill, Regional Manager for India, explained the success of the hosted tweet-up, saying, ?Ireland has tremendous capabilities in software building and we are leveraging our expertise to create a new digital asset for Irish institutions to create more opportunities for them to directly engage with Indian students.?

ISF welcomes Raje move towards labour reforms

Indian Staffing Federation (ISF), an apex body of staffing industry in India, lauded Vasundhara Raje, CM, Rajasthan; Rajiv Mehrishi, Chief Secretary, Rajasthan; and Rajat Mishra, Labour Secretary, Rajasthan, for their step towards both political and economical innovation around changing labour laws to enable much larger job creation. According to Rituparna Chakraborty, president, ISF, ?We acknowledge this step by the Raje-led government towards labour law reforms as a test case for the Centre and other states.?
