XLRI Jamshedpur recently concluded the Sixth National Industrial Relations Conference. Organised by FIRE@X (the forum for industrial relations at XLRI), it witnessed participation of eminent academicians, industry experts, union activists and budding managers from premium institutes like TISS, XIMB, FMS, XISS Ranchi and IIM Ranchi, apart from the host institute XLRI, providing a platform for a discussion on the theme ?Changing Workforce and the Transforming IR Scenario?. Ramkumar, executive director, ICICI Bank, emphasised upon the importance of the managers being the custodians of the people who are working under them, and also of the capital of the shareholders. He also raised pertinent questions about the increasing use of contract labour in organisations and the increasing use of hire and fire policies at various organisations. The final round of the inter B-school paper presentation competition?Sameeksha?was also held during the conference. While IIM Ranchi walked away with the first prize, XLRI bagged the second spot with FMS at the third spot.

British Council organises inter-school quiz on CWG

British Council recently organised an inter-school quiz in New Delhi on the Commonwealth as a build up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. More than 50 school teams comprising two students and one teacher participated in this battle of brains and knowledge. The event held to mark 200 days to go for the Glasgow spectacle had covered questions on the history of the Commonwealth, the games and its various aspects, the Commonwealth of Nations, their cultures and traditions, prominent sportspersons and personalities, movies, literature and more. Speaking on the event, Richard Everitt, director, education and society, British Council, said, ?We hope this will stay with the students; they will take back to their schools and classrooms and share the good message of the games with their friends and their peers.? The winning team was Bluebells School International, New Delhi, first runner-up was Chiranjiv Bharati School, Gurgaon, and the second runner-up was Mahatma Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, KK Nagar, Madurai.

ICAI honours CAs at the 7th ICAI awards

HRD minister inaugurates Principals Conference

As a mark of closure of the year-long celebration on the Golden Jubilee of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the HRD minister MM Pallam Raju recently inaugurated a conference of Principals of Kendriya Vidyalaya on the theme ?Emerging Trends in School Education? in the capital. During the two-day conference, as many as 500 principals, deputy commissioners of regional offices, directors of zonal institutes of educational training and officers of KVS headquarters deliberated on the issues and concerns related to quality education in schools.
