Following the excise cut in February 2014 domestic car sales in India rise1.4%, after four straight months of fall, according to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Domestic car sales rose to 160718 vehicles in February 2014 as compared to 158512 vehicles in February 2013.
On an overall basis, total passenger vehicles segment – which includes utility vehicles and vans -- the sales was down 3.9% to 217749 vehicles, on a year-on-year basis.
Motorcycle sales during the month was up 5.4% to 843307 vehicles on a year-on-year basis, while scooters continued the growth momentum with a surge of 28% to 311957 vehicles during the said period. The total two-wheelers sales rose 9.7% to 1220012 vehicles during the period.
Commercial vehicles continued to bear the brunt of the ongoing slowdown and muted manufacturing activity as total commercial vehicle sales fell 29.8% during the month to 47,982 vehicles on a year-on-year basis.
