CAT 2013 results put Anirudh Batra on top in Delhi

Batra is 1-of-8 to score 100 percentile, CAT 2013 results show.

Anirudh Batra might look like just another college-going student, but he has scripted a success that many had tried to and failed. The 22-year-old scored a 100 percentile in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 result ? the only student from Delhi to do so.

?So what?s the big deal? Everything went right for me on that day, and I got lucky,? he shrugs off his remarkable feat.

Batra is happy he topped the Common Admission Test 2013 exam, but he knows that this is only the first hurdle. His race has only begun. ?There is still a long way to go and I don?t want to be too optimistic,? he says.

Pursuing engineering in electronics and telecommunications from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Batra started preparing for CAT in 2012.

But without intending to, he topped the CMAT in September 2012 instead. ?Giving CMAT was more like a goal in my journey to take up various management exams,? Batra says.

Like the CAT, Batra hadn?t expected to top CMAT, but ?it just happened?.

?You don?t expect such things. I didn?t expect it then and I didn?t expect it now. I knew I would get a good score, but not even in my wildest dreams did I think I would get a 100 percentile. Honestly, I don?t actually know what getting a 100 percentile means. But I?m glad I got it,? Batra says candidly.

So how did he crack the CAT? ?I took a few test series from a CAT training institute, but, apart from that, I worked on my own. Cracking these exams is not just about luck or hard work, but a host of things. For me, all of them fell into place,? he says.

When the CAT results were announced on Tuesday, apart from Batra, seven people from across the country secured a 100 percentile ? four from Andhra Pradesh and three from Mumbai.

Batra, a resident of Paschim Vihar, and alumnus of Springdales, Pusa Road, is the only topper from Delhi. Batra, who hails from a family of six, works for an EDA firm in Noida.

The realisation of what he has accomplished is yet to sink in. ?I got the result and then went to work. I came back from work and have been on the phone with friends and family since then. Everyone is congratulating me on my success. The reality, I guess, will set in tomorrow,? he says.

He has a word of advice for other CAT aspirants. ?I think it?s important to keep it simple. Clearing CAT was never the end of the world for me. If CAT hadn?t worked out, I would have done something else. It?s all about balance,? he says.

And what about future plans? ?I?m not sure yet,? says Batra, ?I have given other exams as well, and will wait for those results as well before deciding anything. Right now, I?m just trying to enjoy this moment.?
