The Special Court hearing the two spectrum allocation scam cases on Friday deferred taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI naming a former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh and three telecom firms — Bharti Cellular Ltd, Hutchison Max Pvt Ltd (now Vodafone India Ltd) and Sterling Cellular Ltd (now known as Vodafone Mobile Service Ltd).
The agency failed to satisfactorily answer the court’s query regarding involvement of the officials of the companies. The court has now reserved its order on March 19.
When asked by the court to name the company officials involved, the prosecution stated that it had been unable to pinpoint any specific officials, even though they did “their best.”
“In a conspiracy, there must be two parties. You are blaming only the government servants. Why not the private persons? Who did the conspiracy with the government servants?” Special CBI Judge O P Saini asked the prosecution.
