CBSE Class X results out: More students score perfect 10 this yr

Hundred-and-three differently abled students also scored over 95 per cent marks this year.

Almost all schools across the capital witnessed scenes of celebration with more number of students scoring a perfect 10 in CBSE Class X examination this year.

?I was expecting a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 9.8. So I am absolutely ecstatic to see this score. It?s always difficult to score well, but I?m glad I could manage the highest grade,? Shriram, a student of Ahlcon International School said.

Shriram?s happiness mirrored that of nearly 76,900 others who too had been successful in scoring a CGPA of 10 this year.

A total of 7,11,652 students had appeared for CBSE exams across the country this year. Of them, 76,900, or about 11 per cent, secured a perfect 10.

Just as in previous years, girls outshone boys when the CBSE Class X results were declared on Tuesday. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 99.06 as compared to 98.74 per cent recorded by boys.

The average pass percentage also saw a marginal increase from 98.76 per cent last year to 98.87 percent this year.

According to a CBSE statement, the pass percentage in the Thiruvananthapuram region was the highest in the country at 99.96. The results there, along with the Chennai region, were declared on May 19.

In all, 13,27,250 candidates were registered for Class X examination this year, an increase of about 5.51 per cent candidates from last year.

The results were declared 10 days early as compared to last year, which CBSE said had become possible because of the introduction of on-screen marking system.

?This system is designed to help strengthen the evaluation process and minimise the scope for errors. It was introduced in Class X exams evaluation for all regions, except Thiruvananthapuram region. Answer books for all subjects were scanned and uploaded centrally and then downloaded at evaluation centres online so evaluation could be quicker and relatively error-free,? CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma said.

Principals said that the performance of high-scoring students is better than last year in general.

?This year, we have 55 students with perfect CGPAs. It is a good trend, suggestive of the increasing acceptability of CCE,? Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Principal, Springdales School, Pusa Road, said.

?Around 20 percent students in my school have got the perfect 10. Students have always been scoring highly since CCE was introduced, and I am not surprised that it?s the case this year,? said Ashok Pandey, Principal, Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar.

The CBSE, which follows a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), releases the results after considering the students? scholastic and co-curricular performance in Class IX and Class X. Students have the option of taking school-based or board-based exam.

Of the 76,900 students in the country who secured the perfect 10, 870 students are from government and government-aided schools, 66,715 hail from private schools while the remaining belong to Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar sarvodya Vidyalayas.

Hundred-and-three differently abled students also scored over 95 per cent marks this year.
