The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday approved 2 million tonne of wheat exports from Food Corporation of India (FCI) stocks.
The wheat would be exported through state-owned trading firms, MMTC, PEC and STC.
FE had reported last month that FCI had moved a Cabinet note to ship 2 mt of wheat through trading agencies this fiscal against 4.5 mt exported last year for cashing on the rising demand of foodgrain from India. “The shipment of wheat could start by next month,” a food ministry official told FE. The wheat is expected to be shipped from Kandla and Mundra ports, Gujarat, for the sake of higher price realisation.
