Manchester United fans expressed their frustration with a torrent of boos on the Dutchman during his side’s 0-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton in their Premier League clash at the Old Trafford.

Talking about the crowd’s disappointment, the Dutchman said that he and his club deserved to be booed as they had displayed extremely poor performance, the Mirror reported.

The 64-year-old, however, praised Southampton, saying that they were extremely organized and compact which is why his side failed to create any chances.

Van Gaal, who believes that United had lost their momentum, insisted that his players had no other option but to work harder and improve on their game.

United are currently fifth in the league standings, with 10 wins from 23 games which they have played. They will next lock horns with Stoke City on February 3.
