Not a country for veggies
Of the 45 member delegation, which toured Pakistan Punjab recently, the dozen odd vegetarians including Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his brother-in-law Bikramjit Singh Majithia had a tough time looking for vegetarian food. At a dinner hosted in their honour, the duo was allotted a separate table and were served food in Gujarati thalis. It had a generous helping of rice but the bowls for dal, sabji and raita were too small. Perhaps that explains why the team lined up for gol gappe at the famous Food Street.
Lessons from Pakistan
The delegation to Pakistan led by Sukhbir has returned impressed with the elite Pakistan Punjab Police force which was guarding them. Attired their ‘No Fear’ emblazoned black T-shirts, black trousers and armed with automatic weapons, walky-talky sets and other gadgets, the six-feet tall commandos instilled both fear and respect. While Sukhbir remained surrounded by such commandos, his wife and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal was guarded women commandos. Some lessons from Pakistan !

Come December and a large group of people will start a Health Walk from Amritsar. The ‘padyatra’ will be undertaken by a Provincial Minister of Canada. Known as Gora Jatt, Finance Minister Mike de Jong, will lead the health awareness walk. Apart from official members of the BC delegation, a large number of Canadian NRIs are likely to participate. Former Health Minister of BC (Canada) and Liberal Party leader Dr Gulzar Cheema will accompany De Yong as health expert. The walk will start from Amritsar and reach Chandigarh after covering 220 km through a specified route. Although De Yong says that the main purpose of the walk is to create awareness about diabetes but keeping in mind the Provincial Elections of BC next year in May, 2013, the move is also being seen as related to the vote politics.
Badal needs space
Peeved at no space left for him to mark notings and with no names of officers sending him the files, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has now directed officers on how to send files to him. The state government has issued orders to all financial commissioners and administrative and principal secretaries to mention their names and designations on files to be sent to CM for approval. Also at least one-third space on the noting page should be available for the orders, necessary directions and signatures of
