Noida Traffic police went all out to try and ensure the city’s roads were congestion-free but poor communication by authorities about a traffic advisory concerning Mayawati’s visit to open the park eventually led to chaos on the roads.
“I knew that the big park was going to be inaugurated but I had no idea about the diversions. I am new to the city and they asked me to take some other route. It was such inconvenience,” said Rohit, a commuter.
The Noida Traffic police, however, claimed that their traffic plan was effective.
“The plan worked out very well, there were no major traffic jams in the area apart from some minor congestion inside Noida city. The diversions caused problem to the commuters as they had to take longer routes but it prevented major traffic congestion,” A K Vijaita, Superintendent of Police (Traffic), told Newsline.
Noida Traffic police also arranged for extra constables to manage the traffic.
“We called in around 150 constables from Saharanpur, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Muzaffarpur. We made sure that every post and intersection had adequate officials to manage traffic, so that there was no inconvenience. There were 300 constables on duty,” a Traffic official said.
