Chairperson of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) standing committee on public accounts Rekha Kadiresan appeared before the Lokayukta police on Thursday in connection with allegations made by assistant revenue officer Chandrakantha, who was arrested last month while allegedly receiving a bribe from a junior officer.
Chandrakantha, who was trapped while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 from Shashidhar, a tax inspector in the Malleshwaram sub-division, on November 30, has told the Lokayukta police that she had taken the money to contribute to different committees in the BBMP.
The Lokayukta police have summoned chairpersons of various standing committees of the BBMP to verify the allegations. Rekha Kadiresan appeared before the Lokayukta police on Thursday and denied the allegations made by Chandrakantha. Tax and finance standing committee chairperson Shiva Prasad may appear before the Lokayukta police on Friday.
“We have summoned persons concerned from the various standing committees to know whether there is substance in the allegations. Rekha Kadiresan appeared before the investigation officers and gave her statement. Some others may appear before us to give their statement soon,” Inspector General of Police (Lokayukta) Panduranga H Rane said.
