IN A chilling reminder of the Badaun double gangrape-murder, the body of a 45-year-old woman, belonging to a backward caste, was found hanging from a tree in Ranipur police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district Wednesday morning.
The semi-nude body of the victim was found hanging with her saree, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bahraich Sunil Kumar Singh said, adding that her family has alleged that she was gangraped and murdered.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s physically challenged husband, an FIR has been registered against five persons including complainant’s brother Vinay, his cousins Raju and Onkar, distant relative Ramroop and neighbour Naeem under sections 302 and 376.
Inspector General, Gorakhpour zone, SK Mathur did not rule out rape even as a panel of three doctors who conducted the postmortem under camera stated “asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging” as cause of death. The autopsy report did not give any opinion on rape. SP, Bahraich, Happy Guptan said no injury marks were found on the body.
Circle Officer, Bahraich, Rajeev Kumar Singh said, as per the complaint, the victim had left home on Tuesday for Lucknow to visit a hospital. On way, her son informed her on cellphone that he had been blessed with a child and asked her to return immediately. The woman told her son to pick her from Ramupurva, which is around two kilometre from their village, the officer said, adding when the youth reached there, he found his mother missing. Her mobile was also switched off.
