The rules are simple: there are none. High speed car rallying is being brought to the city with the organisation of the, Renault Speed Sprint, a day-long event by Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports. The five kilometre stretch on the double lane tarmac road in Khuda Lahora will be cordoned off for routine traffic where a participant who clocks the distance in the shortest time will be declared the winner in his category, said organiser Nikhil Jaspal, in a press conference organised here on Saturday.
There are three categories meant for four wheelers and two wheelers that meet the basic road safety criteria. There is also an all womens category, and another category for novices, which will offer a lower set of challenges. According to the organizers, the event can be called as road rage in a controlled manner. The track will offer challenges like tight turns, high speed dips, jumps and elevation changes.
The fastest driver would win and the fee would be charged per entry, even though multiple drivers can share a vehicle or multiple vehicles can be driven by a single driver. The event has no mass start and each participant in each category will start individually. The finish time will be monitored by a laser beam trip.
