Coal supply issue concerning Punjab Power Corp resolved

K.D.Chaudhri, Chairman cum Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited informed here today that with the efforts of management and officers of PSPCL, the issue of coal supply has been resolved with PANAM and normal coal supply has been assured by the firm from today. Today 6 coal rakes have been loaded and the same quantum of coal supply will be maintained every day by the firm. With the efforts of management Coal India Limited has already been supplying more coal rakes per day thereby resulting into PSPCL?s thermal plants running.

Apart from that nominal buffer stock of coal was also available at all the thermal plants to meet with any exigencies. Giving details of the decision, CMD said that it has been agreed to provide Rs.6 crores interest bearing advance on daily basis and interest bearing Rs.100 per metric tonne to firm. Hailing the decision, he said that, with this there will be no financial burden on consumers whereas normal coal supply will be ensured.

Chaudhri said that few vested interests spread misinformation about the coal shortage and interruptions in power supply whereas the fact is that PSPCL has been maintaining uninterrupted power supply to all category of consumers. He said that this year hydel power generation has been better owing to higher water levels in reservoirs of Dams. Giving details he said that at Bhakhra water level is 1575ft against 1570 ft last year. Similarly at Pong water level is 1320 ft against 1310 ft last year and at Ranjit Sagar Dam water level is 520 metre against 510 metre last year.

CMD said that PSPCL has made sufficient arrangement of Power and with increased hydel power generation this year, there will be no shortage of power during paddy and we are committed to supply 8 hours power supply to farmers in Punjab. He ensured that there will be no power cut this summer except outage if any on account of maintenance or fault in transmission & distribution system. In case there is complete failure of monsoons, there can be some regulations also. He further said that system has also been put in place to attend to complaints of power outage on urgent basis. 24 hour control rooms have been set up and officers/officials have been deputed to attend to electricity supply outage calls. He informed that shortly, the phone numbers of all the control rooms and officers shall be publicized for the convenience of consumers of Punjab.
