The Delhi police’s special cell submitted its 6,000-page charge sheet in the Indian Premier League spot fixing case, which named underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and the ‘Dawood-Chota Shakeel syndicate’ as the main conspirators responsible for controlling the illegal fixing/betting market in India.
Naming a total of 39 accused in the case, including Dawood, Chota Shakeel and cricketers S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila, the Delhi Police special cell has booked all accused under the provisions of the MCOCA, and for the offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating and impersonation under the IPC.
The police have, however, dropped the charges of breach of trust under section 409 IPC, which had been included in the FIR filed in the case. A sessions court in June had dismissed the MCOCA charges and granted bail to Sreesanth, Chavan and 16 others.
The chargesheet filed on Tuesday, however, claims that there was “enough evidence” to link all accused in the Dawood Ibrahim led organised crime syndicate.

Dawood Ibrahim, Shakeel, Javed Chutani and seven others have been listed as “absconding accused” in the chargesheet. The police have also said that “efforts have been made” to arrest five of the absconding accused believed to be members of the crime syndicate, who are residents of India.
The police has also claimed to have initiated the process of issuing letters of request to trace Pakistani nationals Javed Chutani alias Doctor, Salman alias Master and Ehteshyam, who are believed to be residing somewhere in Pakistan or Dubai.
“It is on record that this syndicate has been over the years actively operating from the safe havens, with singular objective of de-stabilising Indian security, sovereignty and economic stability,” says the chargesheet, which has been submitted before the court of the link judge.
The court is now expected to take cognizance of the charge sheet on Wednesday.
Copies of the chargesheet were given to the eight accused who are still in judicial custody.
The police have alleged that the terms of the bets, performance of the fixed players and other aspects were fixed on the orders of Dawood Ibrahim and his associates, and the ultimate
