German sportswear giant Adidas said it has appointed Subhinder Singh Prem, currently managing director Reebok India, to head its India operations as part of a top level management restructuring. The current Adidas India managing director Andreas Gellner will take over responsibility as managing director, South East Europe, with effect from May 1, 2011, the company said in a statement. In August 2005 Adidas announced that it woul d acquire Reebok for $3.8 billion and the deal was completed in January 2006.


Ranu Kawatra is CEO of Pearson Education

Pearson Education, the world?s largest education company and a part of the Pearson group, appointed Ranu Kawatra as the new president and chief executive officer for Pearson Education, India. Kawatra leapt from a sparkling corporate career that began with Cadbury and he was later with Gillette/Procter & Gamble. His last position at Gillette was regional business director for the Middle East and Africa, where he expanded the business significantly. Earlier, as a general manager with Duracell, he popularised and firmly established alkaline batteries in India.


RBS appoints Kumar as head of equities

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) has appointed Devesh Kumar as head of equities in India. Kumar joins RBS from Fortune Financial Services India, where he was the group

CEO. Prior to that, he held several roles at Centrum Broking and ICICI Securities, where he built their equities business. Earlier, Kumar had worked with ABN Amro Asia Equities, Daewoo Finance India, WI Carr, Unit Trust of India and IDBI Bank. In his new role, Kumar will be responsible for RBS?s cash equity (research and sales), equity derivative and equity financing businesses.


Grant Thornton makes Raja Lahiri partner

Grant Thornton International, a major accountancy and advisory company in India, has appointed Raja Lahiri as partner for its transaction advisory services. Lahiri will be operating from Bangalore for one year. Lahiri was director (transaction services and private equity) at KPMG and has worked across verticals like technology, infrastructure, security, real estate, pharmaceuticals and consumer markets (retail, food processing and restaurants). Lahiri led more than 200 deals and advised various PE firms, venture capital funds and corporate houses in India.
