SummaryTalented new singers took over the music industry in a big way.

It was a musical year for the industry, which churned out several new talented singers.

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh clearly enjoyed great success with two back-to-back hits in the form of Lungi dance (Chennai Express) and Party all night (Boss).

These songs became a rage, thus helping Singh reach an all new career high not only as a singer, but also as a composer and lyricist.

Another Singh got his big break this year, with Arijit Singh becoming the new romantic singer in B-town as the voice of Aditya Roy Kapur in Aashiqui 2.

He belted out several other hits including Dilliwaali Girlfriend (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), Laal Ishq (Ram-leela) among others.

Mika Singh maintained a steady performance this year with his dance number Gandi Baat (R... Rajkumar) becoming a huge hit, while Tooh (Gori Tere Pyaar Mein) was a hot favourite during the wedding season.

Among the female singers, there were several promising faces dominating the scene.

While Bhoomi Trivedi impressed with Ram chahe leela (Ram-leela), Monali Thakur’s sweet rendition of Sawaar loon (Lootera) earned critical acclaim.

Sona Mohapatra, who enthralled the audience with her social songs at the end of every episode of Satyamev Jayate last year, got a good response for Ambarsariya (Fukrey) this year.

Shalmali Kholgade too had enjoyed success with dance tracks like Lat lag gayi (Race 2), Balam Pichkari (Yeh Jawaani...) and the quirky Chingam chabake (Gori Tere...).

Other singers like Nakash Aziz (Dhating naach), Antara Mitra (Saree ke fall sa), Siddharth Mahadevan (Zinda, Malang), Palak Mucchal (Meri Aashiqui), Ankit Tiwari (Sunn raha hain na) among others also made a mark with their unique voices.

What’s more, even lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya got behind the mike to croon for Ranveer Singh in Ankahee (Lootera).

In non-film music, actress Priyanka Chopra collaborated with American rapper Pitbull for her second single — Exotic.

The song was chosen as the official theme song of the Guiness International Champion Cup 2013 and debuted at number 16 on Billboard’s dance and electronic songs list.
