DDA meeting to clear 2014 housing scheme today

Earlier, the DDA used to announce housing schemes every two years, leading to a major housing crunch in Delhi.

The Delhi Development Authority?s 2014 housing scheme will be tabled in DDA?s meeting, chaired by Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung, for clearance on Thursday. Several new clauses have been included in the scheme, which will be the biggest housing scheme to be launched by the DDA in the capital. If the scheme is approved, sale of brochures will be announced soon after.

The scheme includes new conditions such as reservation of 80 per cent flats for residents of Delhi. ?The step to keep aside 80 per cent of the housing units for Delhi residents is required to address the housing crunch being faced in the city at present. Otherwise, the gap between demand and supply as far as housing is concerned will keep increasing,? an official said.

Moreover, to prevent people from participating in the scheme for a purely speculative purpose, the DDA is looking to introduce another new clause in the agreement, under which the registration of the flats will take place after five years.

?The scheme will be tabled in the DDA meeting and will be announced if it gets the required clearance,? DDA vice-chairman Balvinder Kumar said.

The much-awaited scheme comes four years after the DDA offered over 16,000 flats under its 2010 scheme. Earlier, the DDA used to announce housing schemes every two years, leading to a major housing crunch in Delhi.

The latest scheme will offer 25,600 flats. The number of single-bedroom flats ? at 24,044 flats, the scheme?s biggest component ? is also the highest to be offered by the DDA. The houses will be spread across Rohini, Narela and Dwarka, priced at Rs 14-15 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

About 10 lakh brochures will be printed. The one-bedroom flats will have a carpet area of 28 sqm. Combined with the common space, the total area covered by a flat comes to 32 sqm. These flats have been constructed using green technology and a huge corpus fund ? Rs 300 crore ? for the maintenance of the flats over the next 30 years.
