BSES discoms, BSES Rajdhani?Power and BSES Yamuna Power, which together supply electricity ?to two-thirds of the national capital, have moved to counter the allegation that electricity prices in Delhi are high because discoms have not passed on the benefits of commercial loss reduction to consumers.
In a letter to Delhi power secretary Puneet Goel, the two discoms said the benefit from loss reduction has been negated by the rise in power procurement costs. The discoms have said they have brought down aggregated technical and commercial losses losses from 57% to 18%, creating additional revenue of R19,258 crore. ?But during the same period, they have incurred additional costs of R27,404 crore on power purchase, which has left them with a deficit of R8,146 crore. According to discoms, power purchase accounts for 85% of their operating costs. ?It is unfortunate that instead of recognising the contribution of the discoms…baseless allegations are being made,? said the letter, jointly written by Gopal Saxena and Arvind Gujral, CEOs of BSES Rajdhani and Yamuna.
