American PC maker Dell has built quite a reputation for delivering solid monitors at reasonable prices. The Dell Professional S2440L is a stunning LCD monitor with full high definition TV experience. Its flat panel display has an active matrix, thin-film transistor (TFT), liquid crystal display (LCD) and LED backlight. It is an edge to edge LCD monitor and is the only one in the S series of monitors without an IPS panel. This explains the rather high price of R14,000. It is 24-inch in size and has an uncommon aspect ratio of 16:9. With full high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080p and a contrast ratio of 5000:1, it offers stunning visuals with a unique edge to edge wide screen view. The crystal clear and detailed graphics makes it ideal for entertainment, gaming, and watching movies, and so using it for simple office work shall be a waste of its awesome potential.
The S2440L monitor offers a pristine finish, premier craftsmanship and a streamlined cable design. It is very slim, measuring just 16 x 22 x 7 inches and stands on a metal bezel that allows it to be tilted extensively up to 21-inches backward and 4-inches forward. With a 178-degree viewing angle, multiple people can together watch a movie on it. You can change the settings with touch-based controls placed on the bottom-right on the bezel. The VGA and HDMI connectors are placed at the back, just above the stand.
The monitor offers appropriate brightness modes for various tasks. So you have modes for games, viewing documents, movies, multimedia etc. You just have to select the desired mode and the monitor will alter to a suitable brightness level. The Easy Arrange software offers to tile your applications so you can see them all in a single glance.
The main feature of this monitor is that its panel can be tilted 4 degrees forward or 21 degrees backward offering a maximum full high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080 in an ultra-wide 178 degrees/ 178 degrees viewing angle. Overall, a good buy for the said price, however, do check out the Acer S235HL LCD monitor available for R12,000, because it offers full high definition visuals with the same configuration at a lower price.
