The year 2013 has closed on a high for the entertainment industry in India courtesy Dhoom 3 box office collections. An all-time high, in fact. Dhoom 3 has been shattering all records and setting new benchmarks with its box office collections reaching nearly Rs 400 crore (Rs 368.23 crore as of Monday).
The juggernaut-like journey of the Aamir Khan-starrer Dhoom 3 has already become the highest grosser of all time domestically by surpassing records set by Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express (Rs 208 crore) and yet another Aamir Khan hit movie, 3 Idiots (Rs 204 crore).
And this success is not just at the domestic box office, Dhoom 3 has been unstoppable in the international arena also. The film has broken all overseas records, emerging the highest grosser ever in several key markets like United States-Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Dhoom 3, which hit the triple century mark in box office collections worldwide in only eight days, has bagged $21.58 million (Rs 133.57 crore) till Monday (December 30) in the overseas market alone. Dhoom 3’s domestic box office collections as of Tuesday (December 31) stands at a phenomenal Rs 241.92 crore, which includes Rs 230.38 crore from Hindi and Rs 11.54 crore from Tamil and Telegu versions.

Casting Aamir Khan, the low-key promotions, the sizzling Katrina Kaif effect and the coming together of Jai (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali (Uday Chopra) made Dhoom 3 one of the most talked about films, thus leading to immense anticipation that finally saw huge box office collections filter into the coffers. The third installment in the Dhoom series had already smashed the opening day, opening weekend and opening week collection records in India, which were set by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’.
The Yash Raj Films produced Dhoom 3 collected Rs 200 crore worldwide in its first weekend, while Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg 2, released a year ago, was the first film to hit Rs 100 crore mark in the first weekend, showing how fast the industry has been growing in less than a year.
