A Disc Jockey (DJ) working at a gymnasium in Sector 8 has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly stealing a debit card of a gymnasium member and purchasing lifestyle products worth Rs 20,000.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was arrested on Saturday after he was caught in CCTV footage while purchasing the items from showrooms at Sector 17 market. All the items purchased by the accused have been recovered by the police.

According to the police, on Saturday morning, a member, Jaspreet Walia, visited the gymnasium around 9 am. She kept her purse nearby and started working out on one of the machines. While she was busy exercising, Deepak, who plays music inside the gymnasium, allegedly stole a debit card from Walia’s purse.

After a while, Walia left the gymnasium without realising that her debit card was missing. The gymnasium runs from 8 till 10.30 in the morning, according to the police. Later in the afternoon, Walia started receiving text messages on her mobile phone about money being debited from her bank account. Walia suspected foul play after she realised that her debit card was missing. She immediately informed the police.

After tracing the location from where the purchases were made, the police reached the Sector 17 market and asked the managers for CCTV footage from the showrooms where Deepak allegedly purchased the items.
